Iowa Utilities Commission Complaint Resolution

The Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC) requires all utilities to provide customers with information on how to contact the utility regarding complaints.

Customers of Farmers Mutual Telephone Company dba Heartland Technology may contact the utility at 541 Young St., Jesup, IA 50648, or by calling (319) 827-1151, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If a complaint involving telephone service is not resolved, customers may contact the Iowa Utilities Commission for assistance.

Lifeline Program – Affordable Phone & Internet Service

The Lifeline Program helps eligible low-income households stay connected by providing a monthly discount on phone or internet services. Customer may receive up to $9.25/month off broadband or $5.25/month off voice service.

Relay Iowa – Communications Access for All

Relay Iowa provides free telecommunications services for individuals who are deaf, hard

of hearing, deaf-blind or have speech impairments. This service enables seamless communication through a Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) by dialing 711.

Access Your Voicemail

From Your Subscribed Phone:

  1. Dial (319) 827-1616.
  2. If prompted, enter your password (default is 0000) and then press #

From a different phone:

  1. Dial (319) 827-1616.
  2. Enter your subscribed 10-digit phone number.
  3. Enter your password (default is 0000) and then press #

Record Your Voicemail Greeting

  1. Access your voicemail (you may have to press * for main menu)
  2. Press 9 for the mailbox setup menu.
  3. Press 1 for greeting options.
  4. Press 2 to record your greeting.
  5. Record your greeting, then press # to save.

Change Your Voicemail Password

  1. Access your voicemail (you may need to press * for main menu)
  2. Press 9 for the mailbox setup menu.
  3. Press 2 to change your password.
  4. Enter your new password, then press #.
  5. When prompted, re-enter your new password, then press # to confirm.

Retrieve Voicemail Messages

  1. Access your voicemail.
  2. Your first new message may play automatically. If not, press 1 to listen. You will hear: “You have X new messages and X saved messages.”
  3. Press 1 to listen to new messages.
  4. Press 2 to listen to saved messages.

Voicemail Message Retrieval Options

When retrieving messages, you can:

  • Press 1 – Replay the message

  • Press 2 – Save the message and play the next

  • Press 3 – Delete the message and play the next

  • Press 4 – Mark the message as new

  • Press 5 – Reply to the message

  • Press 6 – Forward the message to another mailbox

  • Press 7 – Rewind within the message

  • Press 8 – Pause the message

  • Press 9 – Fast forward within the message

Call Forwarding Instructions (subscription required)

To Activate Call Forwarding:

  1. Lift the receiver and press *72.
  2. Listen for a stutter dial tone, followed by a regular dial tone.
  3. Long Distance Number: Enter 1+10-digit phone number (e.g., 1(XXX) XXX-XXX)
  4. Local Number: Enter 10-digit phone number (e.g., (319) 827-XXXX).

To Deactivate Call Forwarding:

  1. Lift the receiver and press *73.
  2. Listen for 2 short tones, then a regular dial tone.

Call Blocking Instructions

To Block Caller ID for a Single Call: (No subscription required)

  1. Lift the receiver and listen for a dial tone.
  2. Press *67, then listen for a second dial tone.
  3. Dial the phone number you are calling.

To Unblock Caller ID for a Single Call: (Subscription Required)

  1. Lift the receiver and listen for a dial tone.
  2. Press *82, then listen for a second dial tone.
  3. Dial the phone number you are calling.
